Abi’s Blog

November 25th, 2013

Big welcome to Abi who is on a Placement with SC Productions over the next couple of months. Abi is site assistant for Ange on the National Theatre Wales’ Christmas show ‘Silly Kings’. This role will provide the last of four placements Abi is required to complete as part of her Stage and Event Management Masters degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. A little blog from Abi: I love a challenge, and I plan on using my time with SC Productions to do things that I have never done before! I’ll be going to my first Safety Advisory Group, receiving Fire Marshall training, and working in my first official site assistant role. It’s great to have the opportunity to be involved with a company like SC Productions especially with NOWIE on the horizon. After working on Silly Kings I’ll be looking to have a career in the events industry and working under the instruction of Sarah and her team and seeing the drive and passion they have after all their experiences in the event world – both good and bad – confirms to me that this is indeed my ideal job. As the saying goes ‘pick a job that you love and you’ll never work a day in your life’. At the moment we are sorting through all the pap

NOWIE – 3 Weeks to go…..

November 5th, 2013

It’s only three weeks till the launch networking event on 21st November and NOWIE wanted to say thank you to those who have already bought their tickets. We get an email each time a ticket is sold and it’s very encouraging to see that it is something people are willing and happy to be part of. If you are planning to come but haven’t bought your ticket yet please can we encourage you to do so? A network is only as strong as the people who participate in it so it would be great to see a good representation from right across our industry at this first event. You can get your tickets and the timings here - https://nowie.ticketbud.com/211113 There are still a few tickets left at the price of £40 which we were able to achieve thanks to some sponsorship support. I would also like to remind you about our social networking activity. We have three places you can go now to join in and see what other people are saying: Facebook group (only viewable to members) - https://www.facebook.com/groups/nowie/ Facebook page (publicly viewable) - https://www.facebook.com/thenowie Twitter - https://twitter.com/thenowie Hope to meet many of you soon!

NOWIE

October 21st, 2013

We are very excited to celebrate the launch of NOWIE - The Network for Women in Events On the 21st November 2013 - Alphabet City, The O2 NOWIE is a group of women that specialise in live and outdoor events who have formed a brand new forum for professional women in the events Industry. Sarah is one of the committee members who founded the forum along with Zac Fox , head of operations at Kilimanjaro Live. The aim of NOWIE is to create a forum for professional women in the Events Industry. To capitalise on the breadth of knowledge and skills that exist in the workforce. To offer training and support to women at all levels in their careers (some whom may be abroad, or from disadvantaged communities in the UK) and to widen the opportunities and skills of everyone involved. It's about having fun, making the Industry work for women and, at times, drawing recognition from the wider community. The launch event on the 21st November 2013 will be an informal and friendly opportunity to spend time with colleagues outside of the working environment plus meet new people already working in events or those who aspire to a career within the industry. There will be a short session of speakers including JESSICA KORAVOS (Vice President, Europe & America at The Really Useful Group) plus the NOWIE committee members will take part in a pan

Rachel’s blog

July 1st, 2013

Having started my placement with SC Productions 4 weeks ago, I have already learnt so much about the world of events! I jumped straight into working in the site office for the Bon Jovi Concert at Cardiff City Stadium, with Ange effortlessly showing me how it is done! This was a big eye opener, realising how many people/teams are required to put on an event that will last just a few hours, and just how quickly it all went up and came back down. Next stop was The XX Night and Day Concert held in Hatfield House. I entered the world of Artist Liaison with Rachel Hill, showing me the ropes. A completely different side to events and one where I was able to put my over-neatness to use, making sure the dressing rooms were well presented. Though having to do the shop for the rider was a challenge; being a student and usually having to just grab the cheapest product! There are so many other options! So with just over two weeks left and it’s onto Wakestock! I cannot wait to get on site and see how the whole team works from start to finish, getting an insight into the various roles there are. I cannot thank Sarah enough for this opportunity and thank the rest of the SC Productions clan for welcoming me onto the team
